Students in Tennessee who are seeking a high-school equivalency diploma will be able to choose from two options -- the GED or the High School Equivalency Test. Education officials are concerned that increasing the test fee from $75 to $120 will discourage students from seeking their GED when the changes go into effect on Jan. 1, 2014. As such, the state joins nine others in adopting an alternative. HiSET, like the GED, will assess students' knowledge and skills in course subjects.
