Valero's RFS-waiver request shows company's failings in RINs market, Dinneen says

Valero Energy's request for an immediate waiver of the Renewable Fuel Standard in response to soaring Renewable Identification Number prices reflects a lack of foresight on the company's part, according to ethanol industry leaders. "If the third largest RIN producer in the country can't find RINs and needs a waiver, Valero has a problem," said Bob Dinneen, president and CEO of the Renewable Fuels Association. "Perhaps they should call any of the oil companies that planned properly and have reported earnings from RINs and ask them how they did it," Dinneen said.
