Zero-fluid-displacement connectors can reduce CLABSIs

Replacing positive and negative connectors with zero-fluid-displacement connectors reduced central line-associated bloodstream infections by 60% and 94%, respectively, according to a study in the American Journal of Infection Control. At the study's six acute care settings, changing connectors in the intravenous system of patients with central lines spared an estimated 13 lives, study author Cynthia C. Chernecky said.
