Canadian construction proposal creates controversy

Canadian developer SmartCentres has proposed construction of 370,000 square feet of retail space and 2,000 parking spots in the Salmon River flood plain in British Columbia. Critics of the project say the project would put rare migratory birds at risk, but a recent poll found that many residents and businesses support the project.
