Hot commodity: Overhead bins fill quickly as bag-check fees increase

With airline load factors near historic highs and bag-check fees increasing, more passengers are carrying their luggage on board, slowing the boarding process and adding to the stress of flight attendants and gate agents responsible for enforcing bag limits. Frequent fliers report a greater urgency to board earlier and claim overhead space, which disappears more quickly as passengers carry on multiple rolling bags.
