House expected to vote on oil drilling legislation

The House was expected to vote Tuesday on a measure to end a longstanding moratorium and open the Atlantic and Pacific coasts to offshore oil drilling. Under the legislation, drilling would be allowed 50 miles from shore if a state agrees to offshore oil or gas development. The measure also calls for $18 billion in taxes on the largest oil companies, with the money going to tax breaks for alternative energy.
