Agents, cruise execs debate profitability of sales

At ASTA's Retail Travel Leadership Summit, cruise line executives and travel agency representatives discussed trends within the industry, particularly pricing and commissions. For example, Costa CEO Maurice Zarmati vowed to support the travel agent community. Travel agency executives, however, said the current situation is not acceptable. Travel Leaders Franchise Group President Roger Block said that as cruises have been deeply discounted, agent compensation has plunged, while non-commissionable fees add to profitability challenges.
