FDA approves two body-contouring devices

FDA has approved two new fat-reducing devices for use in doctors' offices. Zeltiq freezes the fat cells, causing them to eventually self-destruct, while another uses a low-energy laser that forces fat cells to empty over the course of a few weeks. Neither device requires incisions or anesthesia. Both devices target only subcutaneous fat, and some critics warn that they might accelerate accumulation of dangerous visceral fat or increase fat levels in the bloodstream.
