Federal funding targets BSE in Illinois

The Food and Drug Administration is providing Illinois with a $1.2 million grant to conduct bovine spongiform encephalopathy inspections in the state as a preventive measure. The Illinois Department of Agriculture over the next five years will use the funding to make sure that cattle feed used or produced in the state does not have ingredients that could spread the cow brain-wasting illness.
