Report finds rising rates of drug use in the U.S.

Economic recession along with the growing acceptance of marijuana may be driving up the rates of illegal drug use in the U.S., according to a report by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration. Illicit drug use among Americans 12 years and older reached 8.7% in 2009 -- the highest in nearly 10 years. Meanwhile, the use of prescription drugs for nonmedical purposes climbed from 2.5% in 2008 to 2.8% last year.
