Study: Docs reminded of personal sacrifices justify taking gifts

Doctors who are reminded that they've endured personal sacrifice find it easier to rationalize accepting gifts from drug and medical-device companies, according to a study published in the Journal of the American Medical Association. "The pharmaceutical industry and the medical profession do need to interact," said study author Sunita Sah, but critics warn that accepting gifts from industry can cloud a physician's judgment.
