As online sales of counterfeit goods increase, merchants can take steps to protect their brands, writes e-commerce and IP lawyer Jeff Jacobson. Jacobson advises brands to start by filing for trademark registration, which makes your ownership of the brand enforceable in court. Follow up with constant monitoring of competitors and other sources that may be selling under your name and take action against counterfeiters when you find them.
