Trade groups tangle as E15 ruling approaches

Industry groups are reiterating their positions regarding E15 as the deadline approaches for the Environmental Protection Agency to decide on whether to allow the ethanol blend in the country's fuel supply. Outdoor power-equipment manufacturers, oil refiners and automakers have asked the EPA to delay the ruling, claiming more studies are needed to ensure that E15 would not damage car parts and power tools. Corn growers and ethanol makers assert that E15 is safe to use, citing a recent study by engineering firm Ricardo that showed E15 has no adverse effect on older vehicles.
