According to a White House report, the deepwater-drilling moratorium will cause a temporary loss of only 8,000 to 12,000 jobs, with most restored after drilling restarts. Sens. Mary Landrieu, D-La., and David Vitter, R-La., said the report came too late. "The decision to stop virtually all new energy exploration in the Gulf of Mexico was uninformed and, in my view, bordered on recklessness," Landrieu said.
