Americans conflicted over legal recognition of same-sex couples

Fifty-seven percent of Americans believe same-sex couples deserve the same legal benefits of married heterosexual couples, but 48% also say they support banning marriage equality nationwide via a Constitutional amendment, according to a new poll conducted by The Associated Press and the National Constitution Center. Overall, the poll found that 53% of respondents support legal marriage for gays and lesbians.
