Startup targets waste heat-to-energy silicon chips

Alphabet Energy, a spin-out from Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, is developing silicon-based thermoelectric materials that would convert waste heat to electricity. The San Francisco startup has attracted $12 million in private equity funding for research and development on an energy-generator prototype.
