Ala. National Guard will deny benefits to same-sex spouses, governor says

Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley has indicated that same-sex married couples in the state National Guard will not receive federal benefits while the Guard unit is under his command. Bentley cited an amendment in the state's constitution that bans marriage equality. "It's very simple," Bentley said. "When they're under my command, they're under state law. When they're under the command of the president, they're under federal law."
