More Americans call themselves "lower class," research finds

In 2012, 8.4% of Americans described themselves as "lower class," rather than "middle class" or "working class," the highest percentage in four decades, according to research by NORC at the University of Chicago. Less than 55% of Americans agreed with this: "People like me and my family have a good chance of improving our standard of living."
