More U.S. children and teens are showing healthier behaviors

Data from a nationally representative sample of 35,000 11- to 16-year-olds gathered in 2001, 2005 and 2009 showed an increase in the number of days per week the children got the recommended amount of physical activity, less time spent watching TV and greater frequency of fruit and vegetable intake. However, researchers reported in the journal Pediatrics that the number of overweight or obese children did not drop during the study period, increasing from 2005 to 2006, then holding steady between 2009 and 2010.
