Teachers in Uganda begin work action over low salaries

Teachers in Uganda, who are among the country's lowest-paid public workers, have long been promised raises. However, when the government declined their request for a 20% salary increase, the Uganda National Teachers Union announced it would go on strike. It is unclear whether the strike will sway the government to increase salaries, with officials saying they do not have the resources to meet teachers' demands.
