Women have made strides in the professional world, but there still aren't as many women in leadership positions as one might expect, writes Debora L. Spar, president of Barnard College, in this excerpt from "Wonder Women: Sex, Power, and the Quest for Perfection." Part of the reason for this trend is that some women are opting to leave the workforce or step off the fast track for one reason or another, "creat[ing] a landscape where women are still scarce," writes Spar.
