California commission adopts statewide building code

In July, the California Building Standards Commission voted to adopt NFPA 5000, a standard building code promulgated by the National Fire Protection Association, over International Building Code, written by the International Code Council. Critics of NFPA 5000 said the code would hinder construction projects and prove unwieldy because it refers to other codes.
