New labor contracts end pickle boycott, allow for guest workers

The Farm Labor Organizing Committee has signed labor contracts with the North Carolina Growers Association and the Mount Olive Pickle Company covering 8,500 Mexican guest workers and ending a five-year boycott between the union and the country's second-largest pickle company. Mount Olive's president said the boycott had been based on inaccurate accusations; the farmers' contract is the first union farm deal in North Carolina's history.
