South African teachers join general strike

According to the South African Democratic Teachers' Union, more than 320,000 educators participated in yesterday's public service workers strike, the biggest in South Africa's history. Although the union said it could not accept a proposed two-year freeze on wages, it remains optimistic the dispute can be resolved.
