FDA adds Cargill's sweetener to its safe-for-teeth list

The FDA has added Cargill's Xtend isomaltulose to its list of sweeteners that are considered safe for teeth after the company asked the agency to study the product. Xtend isomaltulose has the same number of calories as sugar, and food companies use it in products such as energy bars, yogurts and sports drinks.
