Democrats plan widespread economic-stimulus package

Facing the worst economic crisis the country has experienced in 50 years, House Democrats say they are putting together an economic-stimulus package to fund infrastructure projects, unemployment insurance, energy-cost assistance for low-income people and help for states to pay Medicare and Medicaid costs. Republicans say the measure is politically motivated and will increase the federal budget deficit by $68 billion.
