Biotech firms make San Diego a hub for algae-based biofuel research

Biotech companies and organizations studying algae-based biofuel employ about 300 workers and contribute $33 million annually to San Diego's economy, according to San Diego Association of Governments. San Diego is drawing interest from clean-energy investors because of its experience with biotech companies and proximity to the ocean, said Jim Lane, a Biofuels Digest editor.
