Group seeks bigger role for natural gas

Members of America's Natural Gas Alliance are working to promote the benefits of natural gas amid a climate change bill that favors coal and other energy sources. Natural gas generates about half the carbon dioxide that coal does when burned as an energy source, but gas use would be stagnant or even decline under the House-passed measure, the group says. The alliance of producers has "one mission: to try and generate more natural gas demand," said Aubrey McClendon, chief executive officer of Oklahoma City-based Chesapeake Energy.
