Bottom-kill process nears as relief well reaches BP's blown pipe

Retired U.S. Coast Guard Adm. Thad Allen confirmed Thursday that a relief well, which was drilled even deeper than the source of BP's oil leak, has cut across the blown-out well, paving the way for final sealing as early as Sunday. With the wells joined, the next plan is to pump a mixture of mud and cement into the relief well to permanently plug the ruptured well from below, Allen aid.
