Santa Monica Airport in Santa Monica, Calif., will close Sept. 20 to 23 for a runway rehabilitation project. During the airport's shutdown, City Councilman Kevin McKeown requested an air pollution and noise study to determine a baseline level with no airline traffic. "The FAA has claimed that we can't separate out the noise and air quality degradation caused by the airport from all the other background automobile, traffic and other urban activity," McKeown said. "Now we can."
