Faculty raises set by market rates at Wash. university

Eastern Washington University is using market rates at peer colleges to adjust salaries for its faculty. Under a union contract, the school is dividing $6.5 million in state funds for the raises through which some faculty will receive up to $18,000 a year for three years to boost them to a market rate. "The administration felt that improving faculty quality, and ensuring that those faculty would not leave the university, needed to be the main focus of a new faculty contract," the school's president, Rodolfo Arévalo, said.
