Frozen yogurt gains in sales thanks to industry's "perfect storm"

Ice cream might still be the most popular segment in the industry, but frozen yogurt posted a 74% increase in sales between 2011 and 2013 reaching $486 million, compared to ice cream's 3.9% increase, according to Mintel. "[T]he frozen yogurt segment has benefited from a perfect storm of factors, including the growing popularity of yogurt among U.S consumers, the growing acceptance of frozen yogurt as a snack, and a perception of a higher health profile that coincides with increased attention placed on better-for-you products," Mintel food and drink analyst Beth Bloom said.
