How to promote the passion for reading, writing during National Literacy Month

There are many ways schools can recognize National Literacy Month, which is celebrated in September, writes Brad Currie, middle-school vice principal and supervisor of instruction for the Chester School District in New Jersey. He writes in this blog post that at his New Jersey middle school, all students and staff are asked to read the same age-appropriate book through the One Book, One School program. Other ideas in use by schools include blogging to promote a passion for literacy, and using Edmodo and Skype to connect with authors and other readers.
