Mexican avocado growers target the U.S. for growth

Avocado growers in Mexico expect to export 500,000 metric tons this season, a 3% decline from last year, but about 60,000 more will go to the U.S., said Eduardo Serena, marketing director of the Mexican Association of Avocado Producers and Packers. A $36 million Avocados from Mexico program will boost awareness. "Now, we can have national coverage through television, radio, in print media like magazines and newspapers. We are going to have promotions all year to motivate consumers to buy Mexican avocados more consistently," Serena said.
