Uncertain holiday outlook spurs early start to the season

Retailers are in holiday mode earlier than ever as they face a short shopping season between Black Friday and Christmas, and early forecasts call for slower sales growth after a soft back-to-school season. Sales for the holidays are on track to rise 2.4%, the smallest increase since 2009, according to a report released Tuesday by ShopperTrak.
