Wis. district to grade students' academics, behavior separately

The Milwaukee Public Schools system is overhauling its grading system by separating students' academic achievement from feedback related to their behavior and work habits. Instead of the traditional letter-grading system for kindergarten through eighth-grade, students will be graded AD for advanced, PR for proficient (the expectation for each grade), BA for basic and MI for minimal. Students' behavior will be assessed on a numerical scale of one to four. Grading for high-school students remains the same because of college-application systems.
