Between ARC's proposed fee increase and Carnival Corp. ending its commissions on the air portion of cruise bookings, travel agents, especially home-based agents, are being forced to look for new revenue streams. Writing for Travel Trade, Seth Gittlitz suggests train tours as one example of an alternative opportunity. "Many agents have never been active in booking this kind of leisure travel, but when we tell them about the commission structure, they're all ears," said Jackie Johnson, CTC, assistant vice president of sales for Grand Luxe Rail Journeys.
