Bayer to bolster plant biotech operations, exec says

Bayer needs to strengthen its biotech seed operations because of gradual convergence in conventional and new techniques in crop protection, said Friedrich Berschauer, head of Bayer's CropScience unit. Bayer, which seeks to triple annual sales of bioengineered seeds to $2.1 billion by 2018, aims to become the world's third or fourth largest supplier of biotech seeds in a decade, said Ruediger Scheitza, CropScience's strategy chief.
