DOT fines Spirit Airlines $375,000 for rule violations

Spirit Airlines has received a $375,000 civil penalty from the Department of Transportation for violating consumer regulations including fare advertising, luggage liability and compensation for denying boarding. DOT said the penalty is a record for the violations. In a statement, Spirit defended its practices, saying its "ultra low-cost carrier model is the most consumer-friendly airline model in the world."
