Why Google handled Wave differently

Google has adjusted the way it handles innovation initiatives as the company grows larger, this article notes. The company has given more cash and more freedom to promising projects, along with something it rarely tolerated before: secrecy. While keeping most of the company in the dark about the upcoming Google Wave project rubbed some employees the wrong way, project leaders felt the program needed to be protected from harsh criticism until it was ready to make its debut.
