EHR-based chart biopsies may affect care quality, study finds

Hospital physicians use EHRs to do "chart biopsies" of patients admitted from the emergency department, which may affect quality of care and patient hand-offs, according to a study in the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association. Researchers found chart biopsies are used to get an overview of the patient, prepare for hand-offs and care, and to defend against biases based on initial diagnoses from ED physicians.
