3D printing: Handle with care

3D printing technology is becoming more available and affordable, but this columnist says users should be aware of the moral, business and technical issues attendant upon its use. These include the challenges of using technology requiring knowledge of computer-aided design principles as well as the risk of infringing on designs that are protected by copyright or trademark. 3D technology is also expensive, but fabricators can produce their own designs in small-scale workshops called fabrication laboratories, or fab labs.
