Challenge proves dining on $4.50 a day is no SNAP

High-profile lawmakers and others including Panera CEO Ron Shaich and pastry chef Lincoln Carson have taken the SNAP challenge, dining on $4.50 a day for a week to raise awareness for the problems faced by low-income Americans who make do on that amount or less every week of the year. The challenge has been around for a few years, but it has a higher profile this year as Congress prepares to cut benefits for the 48 million Americans getting help from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
