Check safety features on lawn equipment to prevent eye injuries

Landscapers and homeowners should check the safety features on their string trimmers, lawn mowers and other outdoor power equipment to prevent flying debris from hurting the eyes, writes agricultural extension agent Rick Gibson. Safety guards must be in place to block flying debris, and may require some maintenance. Protective equipment for the eyes, such as safety goggles or glasses, should be worn as well, Gibson advises.
