Instant messaging affecting writing

In the realm of Instant Messaging, "you" becomes "u" and grammar, spelling and syntax go out the window as such language is starting to show up in schoolwork. While some teachers say this illustrates the evolution of the language, most say they are appalled by the degeneration of written English.
