General Electric owns largest commercial fleet in U.S.

General Electric's financial arm owned 1,342 commercial jetliners at the end of 2004, more than any other U.S. company. Airlines operate the planes under lease agreements. In the first half of 2005, GE Aviation Services made $1.9 million each day off of its leased planes and its loans to commercial airlines. It also has helped airlines with financial problems by renegotiating lease terms.
