High-tech solutions were needed for California solar installations

Engineers had to get creative when they were tasked to install the new arrays at one of California's largest multisite solar retrofit projects. Weighted panels were needed to allow rooftop solar installations that could survive 115-mph winds at Kaiser Permanente's site in Livermore, Calif. Meanwhile, HMH Builders used ground-penetrating radar to survey and plan for an installation at a parking garage where no new supports or posts could be used to support a new photovoltaic roof.
