When she found out her position teaching parenting classes was being eliminated and facing her husband's probable layoff from a job in construction, Dorothy Nelson took a leap of faith and started her own child-parent participation center. "I was scared, but I felt like I had no other choice," she said. Her family has had to make sacrifices, but the center is breaking even now after opening this spring. "There is no plan B," Nelson said. "It never entered my mind that I wouldn't succeed."
