SEC aims to crack down on tactics used to conceal debt

The Securities and Exchange Commission voted unanimously last week to propose that financial firms increase disclosure about their debt, as some companies were masking their debt and risk levels. U.S. regulators are responding to concern that some firms, notably Lehman Bros., have used accounting strategies to hide debt and mislead investors.
