Symbian hopes upgrades will lure new clients

The Nokia-owned Symbian Foundation has high hopes that recent improvements to the open-source operating system and the release of three new Nokia smartphones last week will bring more cell phone makers into its fold, according to an executive. "Much of the Symbian 4 architecture will remain unchanged from version three, but while the looks of Symbian 3 didn't change much from before, the next version will get a much upgraded user interface," Symbian's Ian Hutton said in an interview.
